Kensington Tallman, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green and Grace Lu on their roles in “Inside Out 2” – The Nerds of Color

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is the highest-grossing film of all time. After grossing over $1.6 billion at the box office last summer, the sequel is finally coming to our living rooms with a Blu-ray release and a debut on Disney+ later this month.

In the latest chapter, Riley’s (Optional extras) emotions that make room for new ones and help her girl to master the complexities of growing up and her friendships with Bree (Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green) and Grace (Grace Lu) while trying to make a good impression on the captain of the high school hockey team.

Set shortly after the events of the first Everything is upside down, Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of Riley, a newly minted teenager about to embark on a life-changing experience called puberty. As Joy (Amy Poehler), Sorrow (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Liza Lapira), Anger (Lewis Black), and Fear (Tony Hale) attempt to navigate an updated and complicated control console, they must make room for Fear (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Boredom (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), all of whom believe they are the more sophisticated emotions supporting Riley’s complex life. The new set of emotions clash with the old, eventually driving Joy, Sorrow, Disgust, Anger, and Fear out of Headquarters. With a spot on the high school team and her friendships with Bree and Grace at stake, Joy must find a way to get back to Headquarters and make room for the new emotions.

The Nerds of Color had the chance to talk to Tallman, Nuriddin-Green, and Lu about their favorite moments in the recording booth and what it’s like to be a part of such an iconic franchise. The trio also talked about working with director Kelsey Mann and what Inside Out 2 could teach viewers who may be going through the same experiences as their characters. We also had a bit of fun talking about what emotion they think is at the center of their control console and more.

Inside Out 2 is available digitally and on Blu-ray today and will premiere on Disney+ on September 25, 2024.
