Young Detroit Tigers outfielder hits a home run in the opening inning against the Rays

The Detroit Tigers are RED HOT.

On Wednesday, the team wanted to win the series at Comerica Park against the Tampa Bay Rays one game early.

The team also looked to extend its lead in the AL Wild Card race and is now in second place after winning eight of its last 10 games in the recent series.

The Tigers hit hot from the start on Wednesday night, putting further pressure on the other contenders for the October baseball tournament.

In the second half of the first inning, leadoff hitter and center fielder Parker Meadows hit his ninth home run of the season.

The home run was a line drive to right field that bounced 394 feet off Rays pitcher Zach Littell. It had an exit velocity of 109.6 mph. According to Statcast, the hit has an expected batting average (xBA) of .970 and would have been a home run in all 30 MLB ballparks across the league.

The leadoff hit that put the Tigers on the scoreboard with the second pitch of the game marked the start of a great inning for Detroit. The team got two more hits in that inning, including a double by Riley Greene, his 26th of the season.

Detroit scored a second run before the first ended when right fielder Wenceel Perez brought Greene into the game with an RBI single.

Perez picked up right where he left off in Tuesday’s series-opening win and was the only Tigers player to record an extra-base hit.

A win tonight would be the Tigers’ tenth consecutive series win.

According to Fangraphs, their chances of making the playoffs are 87% before Wednesday’s game.
