Richard Goodall, an elementary school janitor from Terre Haute, Indiana, was declared the winner. America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night (September 25). Not only did the singer win $1 million, but he also sang “Don’t Stop Believin'” with members of Journey.

Goodall, 55, was joined onstage by Journey’s Neal Schon, Deen Castronovo, Todd Jensen and Jason Derlatka for the final performance, which preceded the announcement later in the show that the caretaker would be leaving the 19th season of America’s Got Talent.

Schon told the audience: “We’ve been on tour for six months, but I’ve been watching this phenomenon. He’s an incredible singer, an incredible man, and I’m proud to be here for him today.”

After the show aired, Schon wrote on social media: “Richard Goodall won! It was great to be there! Congratulations!”

Goodall, whose longtime wife Patty died of cancer in 2021, said Indy Star in May: “When you’re married for so long and the other person dies and there’s a gap, the biggest worry is figuring out who you are without the other person.”

He became engaged to another woman, Angela, and the two married a week before the AGT Finale. He plans to use his winnings to buy a double trailer and settle into a retirement community in Florida.

Goodall’s big win is a positive moment for Journey, who have been battling some turmoil in recent weeks. Lead singer Arnel Pineda was criticized for his vocal performance at Rock in Rio, while Schon and Jonathan Cain were embroiled in a legal dispute over finances that was eventually settled.
