Anna Delvey eliminated from “Dancing With the Stars”

(This story contains spoilers from Dancing with the stars.)

Anna Delvey’s time on Dancing with the stars is over.

The convicted fraudster and fake German heiress, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, reportedly tricked people into giving her hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, goods and services, as described in Jessica Pressler’s new York Magazine coverage. Their exploits inspired the Netflix series The invention of Annain which Julia Garner played Delvey and Shonda Rhimes served as showrunner.

In the second episode of this season on Tuesday evening Dancing with the starsBased on the jury’s scores and audience votes, Delvey was eliminated in a double elimination along with Tori Spelling and her professional partner Pasha Pashkov.

In response to the question from DWTS When asked by co-host Julianne Hough what she would take away from her experience on the show, Delvey laughed and replied, “Nothing.”

Delvey and her partner Ezra Sosa’s final dance in the Oscars episode was a quick step to KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See,” in which Sosa poked fun at her aloof demeanor.

Delvey was released from prison in 2021 after spending four years behind bars, but was under house arrest while fighting a deportation case. The alleged socialite said she had received permission from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“I was somehow persuaded to do it. I got permission from ICE and then it was somehow too late to back out,” Delvey said. The Hollywood Reporter why she signed up for DWTS after the cast for this season was announced earlier this month.

Delvey had to wear an ankle bracelet during the competition, but said THR She didn’t expect it to have an impact on her performance as it was “pretty easy.” As for her goals on the show, she said she wanted to “have a little fun and maybe get a little exercise in.”

But Delvey’s casting and even the ICE’s permission to participate in the competition quickly met with fierce criticism.

The day after Delvey was announced as part of the DWTS Cast, the co-hosts of ABC’s The view criticized the competition, also broadcast on ABC, for including Delvey in the current season.

“I think back to all the families whose family members were arrested by ICE, who went to court to get their father, their brother, their mother back, and this woman got permission to do that,” said host Whoopi Goldberg. “Am I supposed to think now that there’s a reason? Is there a two-tier system here at ICE?”

Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that Delvey still needs to be held accountable, saying Delvey “still owes people money.”

Delvey immediately countered on social media that the hosts needed to “set their facts straight.”

“While you are entitled to your own opinion, you should at least get your facts straight. I have served my sentence and paid everyone back in full over 3 years ago. I look forward to your correction on the show,” Delvey wrote in a response to The view‘s X-page (formerly Twitter).

Delvey’s lawyer later issued a statement to The viewthat Griffin read on the radio last week.

“We recently discussed Anna Delvey, the convicted fraudster. We mentioned that she was going to be on Dancing With the Stars and questioned the fairness of her being on the show, as it’s an opportunity that most other convicted criminals and immigrants seeking asylum simply don’t have,” Griffin said. “After that discussion, we heard from Ms. Delvey’s attorney, who strongly disagreed with our statement that, quote, ‘She still owes people money.’ He argued that statement falsely suggests that she still owes restitution to her fraud victims. And he provided a document from the Office of Victim Services that he says proves, quote, ‘All of Ms. Delvey’s restitution has been fully repaid and all of the victims have been fully compensated,’ end quote.”
