Thunderstorms possible for Metro Detroit on Tuesday

According to the National Weather Service, the Detroit metropolitan area may see rainier days this week as precipitation is expected.

Meteorologists are forecasting a 55 to 75 percent chance of precipitation for Tuesday, NWS Detroit wrote on X.

A warm front is moving into the region, bringing with it the possibility of showers and some thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, while the mercury will reach highs of 23 degrees.

Megan Varcie, a meteorologist at the Detroit weather service, said the front is not expected to cause major temperature fluctuations in the distant future.

“They’re actually within the normal range for this time of year,” Varcie said of the temperatures expected this week.

NWS Detroit issued a severe weather forecast for southeast Michigan on Tuesday as thunderstorms are likely. The storms could bring brief periods of heavy rain and winds up to 30 mph, but forecasters are not expecting severe weather.

The weather service also issued a hazardous weather forecast for northeast Michigan as forecasters predict a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

There is also a chance of thunderstorms in parts of Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair during the afternoon and overnight, according to the NWS.

No severe weather is expected in these areas, but storms could occur, bringing brief periods of heavy rain and winds up to 30 miles per hour.

According to the NWS, no further hazardous weather conditions are currently expected for Wednesday through Monday.

Warmer weather is forecast for Wednesday, with highs of 24 degrees Celsius and a 20-30% chance of drizzle, according to the NWS.

On Thursday temperatures will rise slightly again and it will be a sunny day with a high of 77 degrees.
