Excessive heat back in the valley! The highest temperatures of over 38 degrees Celsius

A high pressure area is building up and temperatures are rising rapidly!

In the valley, temperatures are again in the triple digits this week and will reach record levels in the coming days.

A Warning of excessive heat valid from Wednesday morning 10 a.m. to Sunday evening 8 p.m.

This means that Wednesday to Sunday are ABC15 Weather Action Days as a reminder to do something in these dangerously hot temperatures. Drink plenty of fluids, spend as little time outside as possible in the afternoon, and never leave children or pets in the car, no matter how quickly you have to run an errand.

The last day of 110 degrees Fahrenheit ever recorded in Phoenix was September 19, 2010. That record will be broken this week.

We could also break several daily heat records in Phoenix as we head into this hot streak.

As our nights get longer, we don’t expect lows below 32 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 27 to 29 degrees throughout the valley, and these unusually warm lows for this time of year could break records again this week.

Temperatures will gradually drop next week, but right now it doesn’t look like temperatures in Phoenix will exceed triple digits.

As ocean temperatures drop near the equator in the Eastern Pacific, we’re heading into a winter La NiƱa. This will push the jet stream (which serves as our steering wheel for storms in the upper atmosphere) farther north, which typically means a warmer, drier fall and winter for Arizona.

According to the latest forecasts from the Climate Prediction Center, the chances are good that winter will be exactly that: warmer and drier.
