Danny Amendola’s DWTS performance: How the former NFL star performed on the Oscar night of “Dancing with the Stars”

Danny Amendola is the only NFL representative in the 33rd season of “Dancing with the Stars,” but he does the league proud.

After the debut episode, in which he performed a tango to “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey, fans were excited to see what the retired wide receiver had to offer in the second week of competition.

Amendola was the third of 13 dancers of the evening and impressed viewers with his cutting edge moves. With gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, rugby player Ilona Maher and former NBA player Dwight Howard among the other athletes on the roster, Amendola has definitely established himself as a threat.

The theme for the second episode of Dancing with the Stars was Oscar night, with each couple dancing to iconic songs from Oscar-nominated films. Amendola danced a jive to “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins from the original soundtrack of 1996’s Top Gun.

Fans of the show immediately praised Amendola for his moves, praising his footwork, energy and stunts. The 38-year-old also showed more of his personality this week than last as he got into his groove.

Although Amendola and his partner scored 21 points, only one point better than last week’s jury score, he impressed most viewers and proved that he can definitely keep up.

Who is Danny Amendola’s DWTS partner?

Amendola will be joined on the dance floor by 30-year-old Witney Carson, who rose to fame as an 18-year-old when she competed on “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2012. She finished third and joined DWTS as a troupe member in early 2013 before being promoted to professional partner in season 18.

In Carson’s second season as a partner, she won the whole thing alongside actor and comedian Alfonso Ribeiro. For her work that year, she also received a nomination for Outstanding Choreography at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

The professional ballroom dancer has been married to Carson McAllister since 2016; the couple has two children.

Which NFL teams did Danny Amendola play for?

After a successful 4-year career at Texas Tech, Amendola was signed as a free agent by the Cowboys in April 2008. He was signed off the team and joined the practice squad. From the Eagles, he eventually moved to the St. Louis Rams before making his first appearance on the field in 2009.

He spent four years with the Rams before signing with the Patriots in March 2013. Over the next three seasons, Amendola won two Super Bowls by catching passes from the legendary Tom Brady. After his successful time with New England, the receiver went to Miami on a two-year contract, but was released by the team within a year and spent the next two seasons in Detroit.

In his final season, Amendola signed a one-year contract with Houston in 2021 before announcing his retirement the following July.
