On Wednesday, intouchweekly.com published a heartbreaking article about one of New Jersey’s most famous actors.
Bruce Willis is going downhill, say his closest relatives.
Bruce Willis was born on an Army base in what was then West Germany, but moved to Carney’s Point, New Jersey, at age two when his father finished his service. He grew up in a working-class family and attended Penns Grove High School. He stuttered and went to the theater, where he found his speech impediment was manageable.
He became famous through television series such as “The Model and the Snooper” and films such as “Die Hard”, “Pulp Fiction” and “Sixth Sense”. He always had a masculine demeanor that came naturally to him and found its way into his roles.
Perhaps that’s why it was particularly shocking when he was first diagnosed with aphasia a few years ago – the neurological disorder that robs you of your ability to communicate. His career would have been over. Even more heartbreaking was learning a year later that he had frontotemporal dementia – a combination of many brain diseases rolled into one, it is degenerative and affects people in many ways. On average, a person lives just 7.5 years after diagnosis.
According to the article on intouchweekly.com, poor Bruce Willis doesn’t even seem to have that much time. He’s 69 and his family says he’s at the end of his rope. They say it’s gotten to the point where they don’t even believe he’ll live to see his 70th birthday on March 19th.
They have made him feel as safe and comfortable as possible and talk about the love they all still feel, especially his daughter Tallulah, 30. But he is a completely different person now and doesn’t even recognize some people anymore. His ex, Demi Moore, is one of them.
Frontotemporal dementia is very rare. Didn’t you think it would kill one of New Jersey’s greatest athletes?
