Latinos and the extreme right

A white supremacist with dark skin seems like a contradiction. But recent years have brought to light disturbing examples, including an Afro-Latino leader of the Proud Boys and a Latino mass murderer with neo-Nazi sympathies. These men are among a small but growing number of Latinos in the United States who are turning to the far right and espousing radical views on race, Christian nationalism and immigration.

In an insightful new book DefectorEmmy Award-winning journalist Paola Ramos uses interviews, historical context and expert analysis to shatter the long-standing image of Latinos as a political monolith and expose a diversity of opinion that creates space for white nationalists and avowed racists.

On Thursday, October 10, at 3 p.m. ET, Ramos will discuss the shift to the right among Latinos with political scientist Eduardo Gamarra and former FBI special agent Michael German. In a conversation moderated by Mireya Navarro, editor in chief of Brennan en español, these experts will examine the complex Latino electorate, a group that grows in importance with each election.
