Woodhaven High School football game canceled last week due to threat

Editor’s Note: 7 News Detroit had to correct the headline of this article because we inadvertently omitted the words “football game” from the headline. We apologize for the confusion.

Woodhaven High School’s football game last week was canceled due to a threat against the school.

The game, scheduled to be played between Woodhaven and Mott High School in Waterford Township, was canceled “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a letter to parents obtained by 7 News Detroit.

This occurred after Brownstown Police received information about a threat/suspicious activity toward the high school, specifically toward the varsity football game that evening. A former Woodhaven student reported the threat to police.

Authorities were able to determine that the threat did not come from a student at the school and, after an investigation, concluded that there was no danger to the public.

“Remind your children that rumors in these situations can be very negative and damaging and can lead to false information that can create a heightened sense of anxiety,” Superintendent Mark Greathead said in the letter. “If your child is showing signs of anxiety or stress related to this incident, please refer them to counseling.”

You can contact the high school’s counseling department at 734-789-2069. Students and parents have also been asked to contact OK2Say (888-555-OK2SAY) if they have any concerns about school safety. There is no information yet on when the game will be rescheduled.
