Coastal closures due to Tropical Storm Helene

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – In preparation for Tropical Storm Helene, many Suncoast locations have already announced closures due to the storm.

Our ABC7 Weather Team will have a survival guide for you throughout the storm: “In the Eye of the Storm 2024: The Hurricane Survival Guide.”

Local shelters are asking people to bring personal items in case of a storm. They do not provide bedding, so please bring your own supplies for your comfort.

Below is a list of confirmed closures. More closures are expected as the storm approaches:

Wednesday closings:

The Sarasota City Hall is closed on Wednesday.

Schools in Sarasota County are closed on Wednesday.

Schools in Manatee County are closed on Wednesday.

GT Bray Park is closed on Wednesday afternoon (Manatee County).

Manatee County Beaches swimming pools on Wednesday.

Manatee County parks and preserves are closed Wednesday evening.

The Lakewood Ranch Library is closed on Wednesday (Manatee County).

Trolly Transit Manatee County is closed on Wednesday starting at 8:00 p.m.

Humphris Park at the South Jetty is closed on Wednesday (Venice).

Thursday closings:

Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) is closed on Thursday.

Schools in Manatee County are closed on Thursday.

Sarasota city offices will be closed Thursday.

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is closed on Thursday.

The Manatee County Commission is closed on Thursday.

No garbage collection in Manatee County on Thursday.

The Lena Road Landfill was closed on Thursday (Manatee County).

Weekend closures:

North Port municipal facilities are closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

All public schools in Sarasota County are closed until the end of the week.

Cardinal Mooney is closed until the end of the week.
