Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert sing “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan

Two queens from the South have tried their hand at covering “Midwest Princess” and their fans are thrilled.

Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert sang a snippet of Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” on the September 24 episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Clarkson showed off her vocal prowess, seamlessly switching between her falsetto and full voice depending on the hit song’s chorus, while Lambert harmonized in a lower register, giving the song a country twang.

The two Texans ended their short performance by slowing down the song and singing their voices in sync. After they finished singing, Clarkson threw her arms in the air and shouted, “I love this song! It’s such a good song!”

Fans on YouTube shared Clarkson’s enthusiasm for the song, with one fan commenting, “THIS IS EVERYTHING I IMAGINED AND MORE.”

Fans were also thrilled by the collaboration between Clarkson and Lambert and raved about their interpretation.

“Now that was a collaboration!” wrote one fan, while another specifically mentioned Clarkson’s vocals: “Olympic singing performances from Kelly for days and she definitely won a gold medal, those insane vocal transitions, the high belt.”

“Please PLEASE do a full Kellyoke version of this for sooooooo long,” begged another fan.

Well, luckily, Clarkson is planning more Roan-inspired appearances on her show.

Jason Halbert, Clarkson’s music director and collaborator, told Entertainment Weekly in an article published on September 23 that when Clarkson decides to cover a song, she needs to establish an emotional connection to that song.

“She covers a lot of genres, but really what she does is one thing: She connects with stories that mean a lot to her,” Halbert said. “And so now, over the next six weeks, we have four different Chappell Roan covers, and I guarantee you it’s because she connects with the story in those moments.”

“Good Luck, Babe!” was released as a single in April and followed Roan’s debut studio album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which was released in September 2023. The song was Roan’s first song to become a top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 4.

Roan has been public about the pitfalls that come with her fame. On August 23, she posted on Instagram details of her recent encounters with fans and called out “superfans” for “harassment” and “predatory behavior.”

She also recently revealed to The Guardian that she had been diagnosed with severe depression and spoke about some of the problems that come with her fame.

“I go to therapy twice a week,” Roan told the publication. “Last week I went to a psychiatrist because I didn’t know what was going on. She diagnosed me with severe depression – which I didn’t think I had because I didn’t really sad. But I have all the symptoms of a person who is severely depressed.”
