CAMBRIDGE – Nine Massachusetts schools are among the top 100 universities in the country, according to new U.S. News & World Report college rankings.

WITH is in second place overall behind first-place Princeton University in New Jersey. Harvard University is third on the list.

The prestigious institutions, which cost about $62,000 to attend, were also named “schools with the best value” by the magazine. Both universities admitted at the beginning of the fall semester that they had a less diverse new vintage as a result of the Supreme Court ruling on positive discrimination.

The next schools in Massachusetts on the list are Boston College And Tufts University, ranks 37th. Boston University was not far behind at 41st place.

The other local schools that made it into the top 100 were Northeastern University at No. 54, University of Amherst on 58., Brandeis University on the 63rd and WPI at No. 86.

The Best Liberal Arts Colleges in Massachusetts

The two best liberal arts colleges in America are both in Massachusetts, according to US News: No. 1 Williams College in Williamstown and Amherst College.

Wellesley College is seventh on the list. The other Massachusetts representatives in the top 50 are Smith College at No. 14, Holy Cross at No. 28 and Mount Holyoke College at No. 34

Top Public Colleges in Massachusetts

University of Amherst The school also celebrated its 26th place in the ranking of best public schools, making it the only New England school to make it into the top 30. Lowe’s University was No. 81.

US News said it focused on student priorities, such as academic reputation, tuition costs and return on investment, in creating this year’s rankings.
