Vince McMahon was called “delusional” by his accuser’s lawyer after criticizing “misleading” Netflix docuseries about the sexual abuse lawsuit

The lawyer for the former WWE employee suing Vince McMahon for sex trafficking has called him “delusional” after condemning the upcoming Netflix docuseries about his career and scandals.

Janel Grant, who filed suit against McMahon earlier this year, accuses the 79-year-old billionaire of sexual assault, emotional abuse and human trafficking during her time as an employee of his wrestling promoter.

This week, Netflix is releasing a sensational docuseries about McMahon, covering Grant’s sex trafficking allegations as well as many other scandals from his time as WWE boss.

Before the premiere, the wrestling tycoon spoke out against the producers who worked on the documentary. He accused them of misleading viewers with “editing tricks” that did not provide a true picture of his career.

In his statement, he also appeared to be referring to Grant, saying, “In an attempt to bolster their misleading narrative, the producers are using a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as evidence that I am, in fact, ‘Mr. McMahon.'”

In light of this statement, Ann Callis, Grant’s lawyer, attacked McMahon and demanded that he be held accountable for his alleged “abusive and exploitative behavior.”

“Vince McMahon physically and emotionally abused, sexually assaulted and trafficked Janel Grant for over two years,” Callis said. “To label his horrific and criminal behavior as an ‘affair’ is delusional and nothing more than a sad attempt to salvage his ruined reputation.”

“Although Ms. Grant has not seen the docuseries Mr. McMahon, we hope it will shine a bright light on his heinous and criminal acts by accurately portraying the reality of his abusive and exploitative behavior.”

“McMahon will no longer silence Ms. Grant. While her story is deeply disturbing and extraordinarily painful, it can help other victims of abuse find their voice. We want to hold McMahon, John Laurinaitis and WWE accountable and bring Ms. Grant to justice.”

In addition to Grant’s sex trafficking lawsuit, which was stayed in May at the request of the Justice Department, McMahon also faced additional allegations of sexual misconduct and nearly $15 million in hush money payments that led to his initial exit from WWE in 2022.

A year later, McMahon returned to the desk when the UFC partnered with WWE and created TKO – becoming a giant in combat sports and entertainment – and assumed the role of Executive Chairman of WWE.

However, in January 2024, McMahon resigned from that position after the first reports of an alleged sex trafficking scheme emerged.

Netflix announced its documentary series in late August along with an official poster, writing that it “chronicles the rise and fall of WWE’s controversial founder.”

The show is set to feature interviews with “McMahon before his retirement, his family and some of the biggest names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations.”

“I have no regrets about participating in this Netflix documentary,” McMahon began his statement.

“The producers had the opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I’ve built that was full of excitement, drama, fun and a fair amount of controversy and life lessons.”

“Unfortunately, this documentary, based on an early cut I saw, is unconvincing and confuses the predictable character of “Mr. McMahon” with the real me, Vince. The title and the commercials alone make that clear.

“Much has been misinterpreted or omitted entirely to intentionally confuse viewers. Producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage and outdated soundbites, etc. to distort viewers’ perceptions and support a misleading narrative.”

He concluded his statement by saying, “I hope the viewer remains open-minded and remembers that every story has two sides.”
