Singtel and Ericsson bring F1 fans to the pole…

Ericsson and Singtel said they conducted the world’s first commercial deployment of 5G Automated Radio Resource Partitioning (ARRP) at the city-state’s Formula 1 event from September 20 to 22.

The technology was offered as part of Singtel’s 5G Express Pass for viewers, which gave subscribers priority network access, allowing them to access next-generation features including live streaming, content sharing and access to taxi apps despite the congested environment.

ARRP is a component of Ericsson’s Network Slicing product, which is designed to intelligently allocate network resources to meet enterprise or consumer application workloads.

The vendor pointed out that using the software could solve “problems of over- or under-provisioning” and eliminate “the risk of degrading network performance.”

ARRP is also marketed as a way to simplify network management and is said to be “particularly beneficial for mission-critical applications where network requirements often change abruptly.”

The use of the technology at the Singapore Grand Prix was welcomed by both as the first commercial use of this technology.

This is Ericsson’s latest global ARRP leadership claim: The vendor announced an implementation in a standalone 5G network segment with the stc Group during a demonstration in April.
