Watch Chrisdeo’s Blind Audition on The Voice Season 26

All on The voice tries to win, but that is not all that Hit NBC what this competition show is all about, as one of the blind auditions showed in the Season 26 premiere on Monday night. Chrisdeo, a 16-year-old from Queens, New York, was so emotional while singing that the coaches burst into tears with her, which would hopefully be the first of many tears of joy.

How to watch

Watch the Season 26 Premiere The voice on Monday, September 23rd, at 8/7c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.

Chrisdeo lives with her single mother and three sisters in a low-income public housing complex in Queens, an environment she says is not conducive to music. The teenager says there are shootings and gang activity in her area and that her neighbor bangs on the wall when she tries to play the piano in her family’s apartment.

“It’s really hard because this is my life,” she said. “And this is my way of getting out of it.”

For her blind audition, Chrisdeo chose to sing “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Miraz, a song that reminds her of her mother and how she “never gave up on me.”

Snoop Dogg was the first coach to turn his chair. He pressed the button after just a few notes. Chrisdeo was visibly pleased at first when a coach turned around, but when Michael Bublé turned his chair right at the end of the song, the emotions became too much for the 16-year-old and she burst into tears.

Coaches Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire quickly and lovingly rushed on stage to hug and support the overwhelmed teen in a genuinely sweet moment, with McEntire promising that “the boys will take good care of you.”

“Your voice is angelic. It’s like a diamond in the rough,” Stefani said. “It sounded to me like you didn’t have the experience. That’s OK, because we’re here to coach you. And right now you have Michael Bublé, one of the greatest singers of all time, and Snoop Dogg, my idol.”

When asked who her coach would be, Bublé joked at the beginning that Chrisdeo only got happy and sad when she saw him turn around, but the truth was deeper. Chrisdeo explained that she performs on the streets of New York and is used to people laughing at her.

“Everyone was so happy to see me. I have never felt anything like that before,” she said through tears.

“Thank you for sharing your talent with us,” McEntire said. “And the next time those people say nasty things to you on the street, just know that all the angels are around you, listening to you as you do what God has told you to do, which is sing with your beautiful voice.”

“When I heard your first note, I knew I had to turn around and push the button,” Snoop Dogg said. “And then hearing your story, because you had the confidence to come here and sing after saying they laughed at you. But we couldn’t hear that. You are strong. You have a gift and you are young, so you still have time to grow and learn how to cry tears of happiness.”

And so Chrisdeo joined Team Snoop.

“I pressed the button for them because I wanted to see what spirit would fit with that chant,” Coach Snoop said.

Sure, the trainers on The voice can judge talent better than Chrisdeo’s neighbor.
