‘Wordle’ No. 1,192 Tips, hints and answers for the game on Monday, September 23

Wordle has been a sensation for more than two years and continues to challenge word puzzle enthusiasts every day.

The game was developed by Josh Wardle, a software developer from Brooklyn, and was originally a gift for his girlfriend, who loved word games. It was originally intended for the couple’s own enjoyment during the COVID lockdowns, but Wardle soon realized its broader appeal and brought Wordle online in October 2021.

The game’s popularity skyrocketed within a few months, growing from 91 players in November 2021 to over 2 million in January 2022. This rapid growth caught the attention of The New York Timeswhich it acquired for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Today, Wordle remains the paper’s most popular word game. What is the reason for its continued success? Wardle puts it down to the game’s five-letter word, six-guess format.

“There’s a reason each word is five letters long and you have six attempts to guess it. This may seem arbitrary, but with the prototype version I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of attempts players were allowed,” he said. Newsweek in January 2022.

“Through this refinement process, I’ve found that five letters and six attempts is the ideal average. It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and thought-provoking, but most people still manage to solve it. So there’s a real sense of achievement.”

Another key to WordleThe appeal of lies in the “one puzzle per day” format.

“The idea of introducing a restriction came when my partner and I started playing crossword puzzles during the pandemic. In particular The New York Times is the name of this puzzle Spelling competitionthat has this once-a-day model that I found to be really effective.

“I liked the idea that everyone around the world was trying to solve the exact same word at the same time. It created a shared community experience. (If) there were multiple puzzles to solve and everyone was at a different level, then there wouldn’t be that kind of conversation, which I think is the most fulfilling part of Wordle.”
