The 9-1-1: Lone Star The cast and crew had a blast filming the fifth and final season – but will fans get the closure they want?
“We are giving each and every one of these characters a beautiful farewell,” co-showrunner Rashad Raisani told TVLine on Monday, September 23, and teased, “But we also leave the door open for stories.”
Raisani admitted, “It feels like there are actually more things that can be explored in depth,” even though Season 5 is the last of the Fox drama.
The EP explained that his team knew going into this season that it would be an “uphill battle” to “get anything beyond Season 5.” The group knew “there was a good chance that this could be it.”

9-1-1: Lone Starin which the main role is played Robert Lowe, Gina Torres, Jim Parrack, Ronen Rubinstein and more, premiered in 2020. As season 5 approached, the network remained silent about whether there would be a 6th season.
CEO of Fox Entertainment Robert Wade told Deadline in May that the fate of the show depends on how Season 5 turns out. “As always, we will wait and see how things go and then make decisions about the future of the franchise,” he said.
A month later, Robyn Lively fueled cancellation rumors in a now-deleted Instagram post. “I’m so excited to be a part of the final season of @911lonestar!! What a ride!” Lively, who plays recurring character Marlene Harris, wrote in June.
Rubinstein, who plays paramedic TK Strand, tried to put the speculation to rest, noting that the stories circulating never “predicted a certain fate for our show.”
In June, he wrote in his Instagram story: “One thing I know for sure: We will continue to put our heart and soul into these final episodes and bring you our most extraordinary season yet.”

Last month, Lowe, who plays Captain Owen Strand, hinted that the rumors could be true. “We all knew it was going to be the last season, so that influenced everything we did,” said 60-year-old Lowe diversity in an article published on August 1. “We really wanted to show everyone what else is possible on network television if people want it.”
On September 5, it was announced that 9-1-1: Lone Star did not return for Season 6 after months of speculation about the cancellation. (The cancellation occurred after Deadline reported in June that Sierra McClain did not return as Grace for Season 5 after there were problems renegotiating her contract.)
The end of the show, however, does not mean that the cast is leaving without a bang. “It’s really beautiful and exhausting,” Torres, who plays chief paramedic Tommy Vega, told exclusively We weekly Earlier this month about what to expect from the season premiere.
“Eighty percent of what you see is real. The explosions are real. The fires are real,” Torres, 55, teased, confirming that the “toxicity” of the smoke cloud in the show is not real. “This train wreck is not miniature. This train wreck is real,” she added.
The actress revealed, “If you love Tommy, we’ll get through this this season,” noting that it was the “most challenging season” for her character.
Raisani meanwhile admitted that he is not ready to say goodbye to 9-1-1: Lone Star. “I love this show immensely. I love working with these actors,” he said TVLine“I feel like we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of what they can all do and what we can do as a show.”
