Cold front protects Louisiana from potential tropical cyclone No. 9

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The weather forecast for today and tomorrow will continue to predict summer conditions. It will remain hot and mostly dry under the influence of high pressure. Daytime highs on Monday and Tuesday will be between 35 and 39 degrees, with highs feeling between 38 and 40 degrees.

Although this is not a criterion for a heat warning, everyone should keep the heat in mind.

Some relief is on the way in the form of a cold front. Expect a few isolated thunderstorms ahead of this front on Wednesday. This cold front will also serve as a blocking mechanism for Potential Tropical Cyclone #9. PTC #9 is expected to intensify into a hurricane in the eastern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday. Landfall is expected to occur somewhere in Florida sometime on Thursday. The front moving through the local area on Wednesday will help deflect this tropical cyclone eastward away from us. This means we will remain on the west side of the circulation, meaning there will be little to no impact locally.

Thanks to this front, we will experience a pleasant cooling of about 5-10 degrees. Unfortunately, the cooler weather is only temporary. Morning lows and daytime highs will be above normal again starting Saturday. Long-term models predict that another cold front will be possible in the middle of next week.
