The match between Atalanta and Como scheduled for the fifth round of Serie A has been postponed and rescheduled to take place on Tuesday 24 September at 19:45 BST.

The Atalanta-Como match, which was originally scheduled to start at 7.45pm on Monday evening, was cancelled, rescheduled and then finally postponed in a hectic hour at the Gewiss Stadium.

The persistent torrential rain in the Bergamo area caused the pitch at the Gewiss Stadium to be flooded, making the game unsafe.

Shortly before the originally scheduled kick-off time (7.45 p.m.), a final pitch inspection took place. Referee Paride Tremolada decided to postpone the hearing for half an hour and requested a new inspection for 8:15 p.m.

The ground staff did an incredible job clearing the pitch in the short time they had while the rain was still pouring down. Just after 8.15pm it was confirmed that the match could go ahead, with kick-off scheduled for 8.45pm.

However, at 8.45 p.m. a final check was carried out. As further heavy rain had soaked the pitch at the Gewiss Stadium, the surface was no longer playable and the game was finally abandoned.

Atalanta have since confirmed that the match will now take place 24 hours after the originally scheduled kick-off time of 7.45pm (BST) on Tuesday evening.
