Emmy winner Kyle Chandler in talks to play Hal Jordan in HBO’s Green Lantern series – report

DC Studios is one step closer to creating its Justice League, as actor Kyle Chandler is reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming Max Green Lantern show, Lanterns.

Should he land the role, this would be just the latest addition to a strong cast that includes Lost and Watchmen creator Damon Lindelof, Ozark veteran Chris Mundy, and DC Comics legend Tom King, among others.

Chandler’s time as an actor dates back to the late ’80s. Since then, he has made a name for himself by appearing in projects such as Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong film, Argo, Game Night, The Wolf of Wall Street, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and most recently, Netflix’s Slumberland. Over the years, he has also done voice work for a number of animated series, including Family Guy, King of the Hill, and Robot Chicken. Should he land the role of DC’s newest Green Lantern, he will join the team alongside Nathan Fillion, who will appear as Guy Gardner in the next Superman film.

Lanterns is intended to pave the way for the Green Lanterns, who will make their debut in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DCU. The eight-part Max series was announced in early 2023 And received official green light last June. It centers on Hal and his Lantern Corps counterpart, John Stewart, in a story Gunn has described as a “True Detective-style mystery.” Deadline says the search for John Stewart is “still ongoing.”

The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops who are drawn into a dark Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the heartland of the United States.

Lanterns is steadily moving forward, but currently has no release date. Mundy has been tapped as showrunner, with Lindelof and King serving as co-writers and executive producers.
