Man stabbed woman in DC ‘for no apparent reason,’ court documents say – NBC4 Washington

A man accused of stabbing a woman sitting on a bench outside a Washington, D.C. subway station last week has a history of arrests for assault and weapons possession, charging documents show.

Marcus Dwayne Jackson, 39, approached a 66-year-old woman sitting on a bench outside the Friendship Heights subway station in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on Sept. 16 and stabbed her multiple times “for no apparent reason,” according to Montgomery County court records.

Jackson ran away toward DC after the stabbing, but a witness followed him and reported his actions to a 911 dispatcher until officers found and arrested the suspect near Chevy Chase Circle, police said.

Paramedics treated the victim and transported her to a hospital. Charging documents state that she is in critical condition with a punctured lung and other injuries. Her current condition is unknown.

According to police, Jackson stabbed her multiple times with a butcher knife.

Jackson is accused of attempted murder, assault and other charges. When he was arrested, officers found the knife on him, police said.

The motive for the stabbing remains unclear and police stated in the indictment that Jackson did not know the woman.

Jackson, who has an address in Washington, D.C., has a criminal record and has been arrested for assault, illegally carrying a pistol, robbery, vandalism and drug possession with intent to resell, charging documents say.

He is due to appear in court on Monday in the stabbing case.
