KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) — Happy last day of summer! It certainly felt that way this afternoon with temperatures in the 30s to 35s outside. There was a nice break in the rain, but more showers and thunderstorms are expected again later Saturday night with an initial warning. There is currently a Level 1/5 risk for a strong to severe thunderstorm, mainly along I-35 and to the west. That means one or two isolated cells could have gusty winds and maybe small hail tonight. In general, I’m expecting a heavier amount of rain and thunderstorms from the west/southwest after sunset Saturday night. That gives everyone in the KCTV coverage area a chance for some good, piercing rain. We expect some of the heavier rain to fall overnight and into early Sunday morning. It depends on where the heavier rain occurs, but everyone has a chance of getting at least 0.25 to 0.50 inches, others could get 1 to 2 inches of precipitation. If you’re planning on doing anything late Saturday or early Sunday, have the rain gear ready. I’m not expecting heavy rain all day Sunday, but some scattered showers will likely linger into the afternoon. This will keep the clouds and keep our temperatures a little cooler in the 60s. It will be nice to break the hot summer pattern we’ve had lately. There could be a few more scattered showers on Monday, but I’m not so sure. What I do know for sure is that we’ll have highs in the 60s on Monday. Then next week’s weather looks great with highs in the 70s!

Headlines:

-The first warning remains until tonight and Sunday.

-Heavier rain/rumbles are likely to move in after sunset Saturday and then persist through the night and into the early hours of Sunday.

– I still think there will be isolated light showers until Sunday afternoon.

– FALL officially begins on Sunday and it will feel like it too, with much cooler air temperatures around 15 degrees.
