Kim Kardashian and “Monsters” actor Cooper Koch visit Menendez brothers in prison

Kim Kardashian visited the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego over the weekend to speak about prison reform to a group of inmates, including brothers and convicted murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Kardashian was accompanied by actor Cooper Koch, who plays Erik in Ryan Murphy’s recent film “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” a dramatic retelling of the brothers’ 1989 murder of their parents.

Kardashian, who previously starred in Murphy’s “American Horror Story: Delicate,” has spoken frequently about prison reform and rehabilitation, even visiting the White House in 2018 to discuss the issue with former President Donald Trump.

“Monsters” sparked outrage among many viewers after its debut over an incestuous subplot. Ahead of Kardashian’s visit, Erik criticized the series in a statement shared by his wife, Tammi Menendez, on X/Twitter on Thursday. “It is sad for me to know that Netflix, with its dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime, has pushed painful truths back several steps — back to a time when prosecutors built a narrative on a belief system that men were not sexually assaulted and men experienced rape trauma differently than women,” Erik’s statement read. “These horrific lies have been refuted and exposed over the past two decades by countless brave victims who have overcome their personal shame and bravely spoken out about it. And now Murphy is shaping his horrific narrative through vile and horrifying character portrayals of Lyle and me and disheartening slanders.”

“Isn’t the truth enough?” the post continued. “How demoralizing it is to know that one man with power can undo decades of progress in educating people about childhood trauma.”

During the trial in 1993, the brothers claimed that their father had sexually and physically abused them. They were eventually found guilty of shooting their parents.
