NBC’s Rodney Harrison said Travis Kelce was no longer a “great” player after the Chiefs’ win

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce’s slow start to the young season has fans and analysts alike concerned about the tight end’s future in the league.

Kelce finished Sunday’s 22-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons with four catches for 30 yards, which was his best stat line in three games this year, but it still pales in comparison to what Kelce has consistently produced in previous seasons.

The 12-year veteran bears much of the blame for his lackluster performances thus far, with NBC analyst Rodney Harrison going so far as to say he’s no longer a “great” player.

Harrison joined the Football on Sunday evening Crew after the Chiefs’ victory and gave his reasoning.

“He’s busy, he’s got a lot on his plate,” Harrison said. “You have to think about it, he’s doing a lot of different things – he’s in the media, he’s playing football, he’s got other things going on… But when you’re in that situation, you have to forget about everything else, you have to focus 100 percent on football, and that’s the main responsibility. I mean, the guys have asked a lot of him, Jessie Bates did a great job with him tonight, and he just doesn’t have the same speed anymore. He’s still a good player, but I don’t think he’s a great, great player.”

Kelce, who turns 35 in October, is coming off a down season in which he recorded 989 receiving yards, his first season under 1,000 yards since 2015. The three-time Super Bowl champion has eight catches for 69 yards this year and admits he hasn’t made the plays he usually does on the field.

For example, on a crucial third down in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes found Kelce with a short pass that Kelce normally would have converted for a first down. This time, however, he was unable to hold onto the ball as Falcons defensive back Jessie Bates came from behind and batted it away.

We hope the All-Pro tight end regains his confidence soon.
