Vols WR scores 3 touchdowns for 49ers

Have a nice day, Jauan Jennings.

The former Tennessee football receiver had a career-best performance against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, scoring three touchdowns in the first three quarters for the San Francisco 49ers. He finished the game with a whopping 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns in the 27-24 loss to the Rams.

With the 49ers playing without stars Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle, Jennings had a heavy workload, leading the team with 12 targets from quarterback Brock Purdy.

The former seventh-round pick is playing his fifth NFL season and has already scored the second-most touchdowns in a season of his career with his performance on Sunday alone. Jennings scored five touchdowns as a rookie in 2021 before reaching paydirt once in 2022 and 2023. Jennings spent the 2020 season on San Francisco’s practice squad.

The five-year Vols veteran, who played from 2015 to 2019, finished his career with 146 catches for 2,153 yards and 18 touchdowns and was cut from the team by interim coach Brady Hoke in 2017 before returning to the team in 2018 under new coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Jennings signed a two-year, $15.39 million contract in the offseason after solid performances over the previous three seasons with the 49ers, including scoring a touchdown in the 2023 Super Bowl.

The graduate of Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was a quarterback recruit straight out of college and was ranked as the No. 165 player and No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Jennings’ performance on Sunday was by far the best of his career. He could also be a solid pick in the relevant fantasy football leagues.
