Football game refereeing is not a perfect science, but it appears the referees in the Chiefs’ game against the Falcons on Sunday night are not even trying very hard to achieve perfection.
When the Chiefs defense attempted to stop a touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, superstar defensive tackle Chris Jones was quick to disrupt Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins and stop a pass that would have occurred on third down.
Unfortunately, Jones was penalized for “unnecessary roughness,” which led to Cousins driving down the field and scoring a touchdown. The decision was questioned by many fans on Twitter, including NFL analyst Warren Sharp.
Sharp expressed his confusion on Twitter about the decision, which seemed to be a perfect example of an illegal handshake to the face of one of Atlanta’s offensive linemen:
The accuracy of this decision is certainly up for debate, but many users on Twitter wondered if the referees were actually helping the Chiefs out, as many opposing fans claim.
Here’s what fans had to say to vent their frustration:
Simply a brutal call against Chris Jones, followed by the worst possible free result.

The officials have to show fewer flags now. We understand that. They are also at the game.

I would like to see a repeat of the horrific crime that Chris Jones apparently committed

So Chris Jones didn’t know if Kirk Cousins had the ball for a reason…that reason is a penalty rather than what was called, but I digress lol https://t.co/HlUwsooqXa
