ESPN Insider asked NFL teams about the chances of a transfer of Davante Adams

Rumors surrounding a Davante Adams trade have died down in recent weeks, and ESPN’s Seth Walder conducted a poll of NFL teams this week on the chances of the Raiders’ star wide receiver being traded before the deadline.

Walder contacted all 32 NFL teams and received a response from 22 of those teams.

Walder said there are still teams that believe Adams will be traded, but others believe the ideal window of opportunity has passed…

“Some people were pretty optimistic that Adams — who is a potential transfer candidate as a good receiver with a low salary for a team that is expected to lose — would be traded by the deadline,” Walder said. “Others, not so much. Adams has been the subject of transfer talks over the past year, most notably with the Jets.”

“‘It’s kind of the difference between what should happen and what I think will happen,’ said one employee who voted at the low end of the scale on the question. ‘The best time to sell Davante has probably already passed.’ Another respondent said, ‘I think the worst thing is that (GM) Tom Telesco isn’t selling very much.'”

As for Adams’ status with the Raiders, we’ll ultimately have to wait and see what the team looks like at the end of October. If the Raiders are in contention for the playoffs, there aren’t many good reasons to trade him. If they want draft picks, they can just as easily trade them after the season and keep Adams on the roster for a playoff push.

Looking back at the Khalil Mack trade, which is still on the Raiders’ minds, the worst part of the deal (aside from losing Mack in the deal) was the fact that they didn’t get anything back for him until after the season.

It made no sense for the Raiders to trade Adams before the transfer deadline.

If the Raiders are in the running at the transfer deadline, why would they part with the team’s most dynamic offensive player?

Like everything else in the NFL, the storylines surrounding Adams and the Raiders change from week to week. Right now, the Raiders’ situation at the quarterback position seems to be working out, and their defense is good enough to keep the team in the game.

Raiders GM Tom Telesco has financial considerations to deal with regarding Adams’ future, but there is no point in rushing those decisions.

If the Raiders win, it is unlikely that Adams will be traded before the deadline.
