Detroit Lions vs Arizona Cardinals, Sunday, September 22

Detroit extended the lead to 20-7 in the final minutes of the first half thanks to a great call by offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who set up a short pass from Goff to St. Brown that was completed at the Arizona 20-yard line. St. Brown lateraled the ball back to running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who crossed the field behind him and scored a 20-yard touchdown.

Lions safety Kerby Joseph made a key interception in the Lions’ end zone on the Cardinals’ first drive of the second half. It was Joseph’s second interception of the season and 10th of his career, making it the fourth-highest interception by a Lions player in his first three seasons of his career.

Goff threw an interception to Cardinals linebacker Dennis Gardeck at the Lions’ 36-yard line midway through the third quarter, but Detroit’s defense had his back. They forced a turnover at the Lions’ 23-yard line by tackling Murray just short of the line to gain an advantage on a 4th-and-1 play. Detroit made it to the Arizona 34-yard line, but also lost the ball on a turnover and failed to convert its own 4th-and-1 play.

The teams traded punts for much of the fourth quarter until a field goal by Matt Prater with three minutes left cut the lead to 20-13.

From there, Detroit was able to run the clock down to zero after a great 17-yard pass to St. Brown on a 3rd & 11 play just before the two-minute warning. An 8-yard run by Goff for a first down and a couple of kneel-downs ended the game.
