The Carolina Panthers drafted former first-round pick Bryce Young in favor of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, and the move worked.
The Panthers defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 36-22 on Sunday, giving Carolina its first win of the season and its highest-scoring game since the 2022 season.
Dalton, who sat behind Young last season, had 319 passing yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first quarterback this season to throw for 300 yards and three or more touchdowns in a single game.
After the Panthers lost their first two games by 20 points or more, 2024 seemed set to be another historically bad year for them, but perhaps the move to Dalton will change the course of their season.
After the Raiders’ embarrassing loss, NFL fans criticized head coach Antonio Pierce and Las Vegas for failing to pull out a win in what could have been a manageable game.

Well, I have some really bad @Raider Performances. This one is right up there with the best. This is unacceptable.

The Raiders beating the Ravens and losing to the Panthers next week makes so much sense https://t.co/gQDvFXQyji

Maybe Sunday’s game was just a fluke loss for the Raiders, but the Panthers looked composed with Dalton at quarterback and will look to maintain that composure and turn things around after last season’s disaster.
Las Vegas has endured a confusing couple of weeks, beating the Baltimore Ravens last week before losing to the Panthers this week. The Raiders, like Carolina, are looking to get back to winning ways after years of struggle, but Sunday’s result doesn’t bode well for them doing so this year.
