Steelers NFL Power Rankings Week 3 Summary: Pittsburgh Falls Below Top 5

It wasn’t pretty by any means, but the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to secure their second win of the 2024 season in Week 2, defeating the Denver Broncos 13-6.

Pittsburgh got off to a promising start on offense, but that momentum didn’t last into the second half. Fortunately, the defense was able to hold the upper hand once again, limiting the Broncos to just 295 yards and six points.

Now the Steelers turn their attention to Week 3 when they face the Los Angeles Chargers, who are also 2-0. The Steelers may also have to make a decision at quarterback if Russell Wilson is healthy enough to play.

Justin Fields has done enough to help the Steelers get off to a 2-0 start, but the offense has been less than impressive. We continue to believe head coach Mike Tomlin will hand the ball off to Wilson when he’s ready. Pittsburgh will have to see what it has in the veteran playmaker and whether he can improve the offense.

With that win behind us, let’s take a look at where the Steelers rank in the NFL experts’ rankings heading into Week 3. They’re in the top five in one of those rankings.

Steelers NFL Power Rankings Week 3

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News: 5 (+4)

I: “The Steelers have won a lot with their defense and special teams. They started with convincing wins in Atlanta and Denver before facing a more difficult game at home against the 2-0 winners in the Chargers in Week 3. Justin Fields makes the formula work by protecting the ball and leaning well on a complementary running game.”

Taylor Wirth, NBC Sports: 13 (-1)

Wirth: “Justin Fields has played well in place of Russell Wilson, but this offense needs reinforcement at quarterback. Is DangerRuss still that guy? The defense can carry them until they have an answer.”

Lou Scataglia, NFL Spin Zone: 13

Scattered: “The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Denver Broncos in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season, but it wasn’t a pretty win, and even though they are 2-0, the way they win these games isn’t sustainable. They’ve scored 31 points in two games, which just isn’t enough, but some Steelers fans would have you believe that QB Justin Fields is a franchise QB and can continue to win games like this.”
