Dolphins player McDaniel “pessimistic” about Raheem Mostert’s status

MIAMI – Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert is unlikely to play in his team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, coach Mike McDaniel said, as he continues to work on his recovery from a pectoral injury.

Mostert missed last week’s loss to the Buffalo Bills due to a pectoral injury he suffered in the season opener in Miami. Although Mostert practiced in limited fashion throughout the week, McDaniel was skeptical about the team’s best runner from last season.

“I’m an optimistic person, so I would say I’m pessimistic that he’ll play,” McDaniel said. “That’s telling, but I can’t rule it out.”

Running back De’Von Achane leads the team with 46 touches through two games and will likely be busy again as quarterback Skylar Thompson will make his fourth career start in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa. McDaniel said he feels good about rookie running back Jaylen Wright’s status at this point in the season, but it’s unclear how much work he’ll get against Seattle.

Left tackle Terron Armstead told reporters Thursday that he is expected to play Sunday after leaving last week’s game with a shoulder injury. The Dolphins do not expect wide receiver Grant DuBose to play after he was unable to practice this week because of a shoulder injury.

Tagovailoa will miss at least the team’s next four games after suffering a concussion in Week 2. He was placed on the injured list on Monday to give him time to recover without trying to rush back into action. McDaniel confirmed that Tagovailoa will travel to Seattle this weekend – something he has not done during his previous two stints in concussion protocol in 2022.
