The Steelers’ game against the Broncos last weekend was not a big deal.

Pittsburgh picked up a narrow 13-6 win over Denver, who drafted rookie Bo Nix with the 12th pick as quarterback.

Nix beat out Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson for the starting job – not exactly the toughest battle, but the Steelers may think Nix is the lesser of two evils.

Podcast host James Palmer said on former receiver Steve Smith Sr.’s podcast that the Steelers’ defensive players knew exactly what to expect from their opponents.

“I was just in the Steelers locker room going up against a rookie named Bo Nix, who was making his second NFL appearance. (After the game) I was talking to the Steelers cornerbacks, and they were sitting in the corner laughing and saying, ‘We knew the playbook was this big (points with pinky fingers),'” Palmer said.

“‘We knew they wouldn’t shoot him, and we know what he likes to do. They would make it easy for him to go here and there, and that was all we had to worry about.'”

Nix completed 20 of 36 passes for 246 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. In Week 1 in Seattle, he completed 26 of 42 passes for 138 yards, no scores and two more interceptions.

Nix was the sixth and final quarterback selected in the first round last April, following Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix and JJ McCarthy.

The 24-year-old played for Auburn and Oregon for five years during his college career. He finished third in last season’s Heisman voting after completing 77.4% of his passes for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and just three interceptions, all of which were career highs (his previous career high for touchdowns was 29).

His yards and touchdowns were also the most in the FBS last year. However, he seems to be struggling in the major leagues so far.

Nix is under center after Denver cut ties with Russell Wilson after two seasons. Week 2 was supposed to be Wilson’s first game against his former team, but he sustained a calf injury before Week 1, and Justin Fields has filled in as the starter in his absence.
