Jordan Love’s injury status for the Packers’ Week 3 game at the Titans

play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Green Bay Packers head to the Tennessee Titans and face big questions at the quarterback position.

What is Jordan Love’s status?

Jordan Love’s participation in the week three game against the Titans is officially questionable.

The Packers quarterback’s injury report rating is no different from last week, when Love was listed as questionable two days before the game against the Indianapolis Colts. This time, the likelihood of Love being downgraded to questionable before kickoff is significantly lower.

Love practiced all three days this week, including Thursday, in protective gear after missing practice a week ago. Coach Matt LaFleur said the Packers would “work to get” Love medically cleared for Sunday’s game against the Titans, but the quarterback could have a say in whether he plays depending on how his injured left knee feels.

Who will start at quarterback for the Packers if Love can’t play?

Malik Willis would be the starter after holding that role in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Willis completed 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown (a passer rating of 126.8) in the 16-10 win over the Colts.

Who will be the backup quarterback?

The Packers promoted quarterback Sean Clifford from the practice squad to the active roster for game day. It is Clifford’s second promotion this season, leaving him with a free promotion in 2024.

Clifford was promoted last week to be Willis’ replacement when Love did not play against the Colts.

Clifford’s promotion doesn’t necessarily mean Love won’t play Sunday. It gives the Packers more depth in case Love is unable to play after his MCL injury. However, the reinforcement at the quarterback position suggests Love’s status is at least unclear enough to make a close call.

What injury does Jordan Love have?

Love has suffered a medial ligament strain in his left knee.

The medial collateral ligament is a band of tissue that provides stability to the knee joint, according to the National Institutes of Health. There are three levels of severity, depending on how large the opening is in the joint.

Patients with first-degree injuries can usually return to play within 10 to 14 days, while for patients with second-degree injuries the time to return may vary.

How did Jordan Love get injured?

On the Packers’ third-to-last play in Week 1 against Philadelphia, Love’s knee buckled under the weight of Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who tried to bring him down.
