MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Saturday is the last full day of summer!! And what a summery day it will be!

Today marks the 13th straight day of above-average temperatures and the 12th day of temperatures above 80 degrees. The blocking weather pattern we’d been under finally started to break up at the end of the work week, with some showers finally coming to our area late Thursday and early Friday.

Today will start sunny and temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s, perhaps even near 30 in some areas. But just to our west is our next weather maker, a cold front that will bring showers and possibly thunderstorms throughout the day. The warming of the Earth’s surface ahead of this front will help destabilize the atmosphere. These showers and thunderstorms should begin after 5 p.m., moving first into the northwestern counties and weakening after 10 p.m.

What’s next…

Then, early Sunday morning, the second round of rainy weather will begin, mostly in the form of showers. These cells will move in from the southwest and stay there for most of the day. Although these storms will dull our first day of fall, they will bring beneficial precipitation to our area, ranging from 1/4″ to 1/2″ in the northwest and up to 1″ in some of our southern counties. Temperatures on Sunday will be significantly cooler than Saturday, just barely above 60 degrees.

A look into the future …

The start of the new working week will be mostly sunny but cool. Temperatures will be below average, still between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius. There could be a few light showers on Tuesday afternoon, but after that we can expect a sunny and dry rest of the week with temperatures rising back up to 25 degrees Celsius by Friday.
