Janet Jackson falsely claims Kamala Harris is “not black”

Janet Jackson warned voters in an interview with The Guardian about the potential chaos surrounding the upcoming November election. The Grammy winner also repeated false claims about Vice President Kamala Harris’s ethnicity.

“‘Do you know what they allegedly said?'” Jackson told the news station. “‘She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Native American.'”

When Jackson learned that Harris was both black and Native American, he countered, claiming that the presidential candidate’s father was neither one nor the other.

“Her father is white. That’s what I’m told. I mean, I haven’t seen the news in a couple of days,” she said. “I’m told they found out her father is white.”

Presidential candidate Donald Trump told reporters in August that his Democratic opponent Harris had “turned black” for political reasons.

“She was just promoting Native American heritage,” Trump said in an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists convention. “I didn’t know she was black until she became black a few years ago, and now she wants to be known as black… Is she Native American or is she black?”

Harris’ father is a Jamaican immigrant who came to the United States to pursue a PhD in economics. Her mother, who died in 2009, was an Indian immigrant.

Elsewhere in the interview, The Guardian asked Jackson if she thought America was ready for Harris, to which she replied: “Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really don’t know. I think it’s going to be chaos either way.”

She then reiterated her belief that, regardless of who wins, she does not expect a peaceful transfer of power following the elections.

“I think there could be chaos,” Jackson said. “Whatever the outcome, we’ll see.”
