Match report | Olise again and again: Bayern take Werder’s defense apart | Werder Bremen – Bayern Munich 0:5 | 4th matchday | Bundesliga 2024/25

Thanks to a confident and strong performance, FC Bayern celebrated their fourth victory in the fourth Bundesliga game of the 2024/25 season. One offensive player in particular took center stage.

Werder coach Ole Werner made two changes after the 2-1 win in Mainz: Instead of Friedl (red card suspension) and Njinmah (ankle injury), Pieper and Grüll (starting debut in the Bundesliga) started.

Compared to the 9-2 win over Zagreb in the Champions League during the week, Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany also rotated two positions. Guerreiro and Gnabry (both on the bench) were replaced by Laimer and Coman. Neuer – injured against Zagreb – was initially back in the starting eleven, but had to drop out after warming up and took a seat on the bench. Ulreich started.

Olise and Musiala reward Bayern

Only in the first five minutes or so, when both sides waited, did Bremen manage to keep the teams fairly even. After that, Munich took control – and did not allow Werder to develop with high pressing and long periods of possession.

Only Bayern played, and they had the first chance early on through Laimer, who hit the top of the crossbar from a distance (8th minute). Bremen defended in the center mostly with concentration and was able to block a few shots. But in the 23rd minute, the southern Germans’ overwhelming superiority became too great: after Weiser lost the ball to Davies, Kane immediately passed to Olise in the center, who quickly slotted in to make it 1-0.

Then the play continued towards Zetterer’s goal. Via Laimer and Olise, who this time provided the assist, Musiala put the team 2-0 ahead at half-time in the 32nd minute.

SVW defense desolate: Three Bayern goals in nine minutes

After the break, Bremen – Köhn and Topp had come on for Grüll and Ducksch – attacked Munich a little higher and thus briefly shifted the action a little more into the record champions’ half. However, there were no clear chances and when Munich scored the 3-0 in the 57th minute – Kane scored after a successful move with Olise and Musiala – the party was already decided.

Now SVW’s back line fell apart. Olise, who crowned his productive afternoon (two goals, two assists) with the 4-0 (60th minute), and Gnabry, who scored the 5-0 less than ten minutes after coming on as a substitute (67th minute), finally made things extremely clear against the overwhelmed Hanseaten. Kimmich even hit the goal post from a distance shortly before the end (90th minute).
