Word for word: Arne Slot’s programme notes for Liverpool vs Bournemouth

Of course I would like to welcome Andoni Iraola, his team and the Bournemouth players and fans to the stadium. Bournemouth’s history over the last few years is one that can only be enjoyed with sympathy and respect. They are more than just a strong player in the Premier League and have a reputation for playing good football, and rightly so.

So we know what to expect and it’s another tough task against opponents with quality and experience. We only got back from Milan in the early hours of Wednesday morning but our aim is to be ready for kick-off because we know we’ll have to put in another good performance.

I have already mentioned how pleased I was with the players during the week and the same goes for our fans. During the game itself I was completely focused on what was happening on the pitch and it was only afterwards that I was able to fully appreciate the impact our fans had on the stadium.

It was wonderful to see so many of you up in the stands, spread out all over the stands, and the support we received throughout the game was incredible. Even though you were so heavily outnumbered, you really made your voices heard and that definitely helped our performance.

We can only appreciate this kind of support, especially when it comes from abroad and our fans have to travel long distances to support us, which is why everyone at the club was so saddened by the tragic loss of Philip Dooley when we were in Italy.

Liverpool is a special club and one of the main reasons for that is our fans. It is incredibly sad to lose one of them in such circumstances. It goes without saying that our condolences and thoughts are with Philip’s family and friends.

You’ll never Walk Alone,

Arne
