Big Ten Announces 2024-25 Men’s Basketball Conference Schedule – Penn State

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The schedule for the 2024-25 Penn State men’s basketball season is now complete, as the Big Ten Conference released the full 20-game schedule of league play on Thursday, which includes nine conference games in Happy Valley and one “home” game at the Palestra in Philadelphia. The 2024-25 Penn State men’s basketball season is presented by Highmark Health.

Three weekend games at the Bryce Jordan Center highlight the Nittany Lions’ home conference schedule, while Penn State also hosts Indiana at the historic Palestra on Sunday, Jan. 5.

Kickoff times and network designations for all conference and non-conference games will be announced by the conference office in the coming weeks.

Big Ten play begins with two games in early December, when Penn State opens conference play at home on Thursday, Dec. 5 when defending Big Ten regular season champion Purdue visits the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State will then travel to Rutgers on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

After returning to non-league play and brief breaks for finals and the holidays, the Nittany Lions return to Big Ten play in earnest on Thursday, January 2 when Penn State hosts Northwestern at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Penn State returns to the historic Palestra on Sunday, Jan. 5, when the Nittany Lions host Indiana in the City of Brotherly Love. Penn State has hosted the Big Ten four times in the “Cathedral of College Basketball,” defeating Michigan State in 2017, Iowa in 2020 and most recently Michigan in 2024. Since 1927, Penn State has played a total of 62 games at the Palestra. The 2024-25 Nittany Lions roster includes two student-athletes with Philadelphia-area ties: Zach Hicks (Camden, N.J.; Camden Catholic) and Kachi Nzeh (Upper Darby, Pa.; George School).

More information and tickets for the Penn State-Indiana game at the Palestra will be available at a later date. Season ticket holders for the 2024-25 men’s basketball team and members of the Nittany Lion Club will have priority in securing tickets to the game at the Palestra.

Following the Palestra game, Penn State will hit the road again on Wednesday, Jan. 8, playing at defending Big Ten Tournament champion Illinois before returning to the Bryce Jordan Center to host new conference member Oregon on Sunday, Jan. 12. The Nittany Lions will also host Rutgers (Monday, Jan. 20) and Ohio State (Thursday, Jan. 30) in January, with additional road games scheduled for Michigan State (Wednesday, Jan. 15), Iowa (Friday, Jan. 24) and Michigan (Monday, Jan. 27) throughout the month.

February begins with a home game against Minnesota on Tuesday, February 4, before Penn State travels to the West Coast to visit UCLA (Saturday, February 8) and USC (Tuesday, February 11). The Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley for two consecutive home games against Washington (Saturday, February 15) and Nebraska (Wednesday, February 19). After two road games at Minnesota (Saturday, February 22) and Indiana (Wednesday, February 26), the Nittany Lions host Maryland on Saturday, March 1, ending their home season at the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State closes the regular season on the road at Wisconsin on Saturday, March 8.

The 2025 Big Ten Tournament will be held March 12-16 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Nittany Lions 2024-25

The Nittany Lions will enter their second season under Peter and Ann Tombros-sponsored head coach Mike Rhoades in 2024-25. Rhoades led the Nittany Lions to the second-most Big Ten wins by a first-year head coach in program history in his first season in 2023-24. Penn State is nearly 60 percent of its point production from last season as five key players return, most notably reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Ace Baldwin Jr.
