IND vs BAN: Virat Kohli’s team wins fielding competition in training in Chennai

India fielding coach T Dilip revealed that he has involved the team in some mini-competitions in the practice sessions ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh. Dilip revealed via a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that Virat Kohli’s team played a trump card during an intensive practice session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday.

The BCCI uploaded a video of India’s training session on Monday, September 16. Dilip revealed that the team was divided into smaller teams that competed against each other in intensive training. The coach said that India trained in two segments – one was a competitive session and the second was general training for the players.

“Today was about bringing everyone together as a team. We did two sessions – the competitive session, where we took into account the humidity in Chennai. The volume was less but the intensity was there. So we split into two groups and played a few mini-catching competitions. The team with the fewest mistakes won. Today, Virat’s team won,” T Dilip said in the BCCI video.

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja were diving around the park while Yashasvi Jaiswal also took some fantastic chances. T Dilip was assisted in training by Abhishek Nayar.

“In the second exercise, we split into two groups. The bowlers and all-rounders were divided into two stations, where catching was done in the outfield and infield with attacking ground fielding. Today the second group, the batter group, was in the slip cordon and short leg,” he added.

“Overall, I would say it was fantastic, especially considering the hot conditions. The best thing about this group was that the intensity was great in all sessions,” Dilip concluded.

The fielding coach is the only member of the team that India has retained from the Rahul Dravid era. Apart from Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey left the Indian team to make way for Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel.
