Yellowstone cat: Lost pet travels 900 miles to California after escaping during camping trip | US News

A domestic cat has defied all odds and returned to its owners in California after becoming lost in Yellowstone National Park two months ago.

The Adventurous cat-like – called Rayne Beau – apparently made the 900 mile journey from Wyoming after getting a fright during a family camping trip.

His owners, Benny and Susanne Anguiano, took Rayne Beau and his twin sister to Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone on June 4 for the cats’ first trip into the woods.

However, the holiday came to a bad end after Rayne Beau got scared and ran into nearby trees.

Despite a four-day search, the Anguianos were unable to find their lost pet and eventually returned home to Salinas with heavy hearts.

Although she was heading home, Ms. Anguino said she never gave up hope of finding him and took the double rainbow she saw on the way home as “a sign” that he would be OK.

In August, the Anguianos received a surprise call from Rayne Beau’s microchip company telling them their pet was safe and well at the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) in Roseville, California.

The shelter was nearly 900 miles (1,448 km) from Yellowstone and only 200 miles (322 km) from her home.

A woman who first saw Rayne Beau wandering the streets of the northern California city fed him and gave him water until she managed to catch him on August 3 and bring him to the local animal rescue group.

Rayne Beau’s owners picked him up the next day.

He had lost 6 pounds and had “injured paws”

Ms Anguianos said he had lost 2.7 kilograms, adding: “I am convinced he had walked most of the way on his own. His paws were pretty battered. He had lost 40 percent of his body weight and had very low protein levels due to inadequate nutrition. So he was not being cared for.”

It remains a mystery how Rayne Beau ended up in Roseville, and his owners hope the public will be able to solve the mystery.

In case of further mishaps, Rayne Beau has now been equipped with a global GPS tracker.

His owners say they will “practice camping in their driveway to get him used to it” before hitting the road again.
