According to Elon Musk’s lawsuit, the X headquarters will be in Bastrop, Texas

According to new court documents, X has quietly moved its official headquarters to a rural community outside Austin, Texas.

On Monday, Elon Musk’s lawyers asked a California judge to change the venue of his ongoing legal battle with former CNN anchor Don Lemon, who sued the billionaire in August over a failed partnership with X (formerly known as Twitter).

According to a statement from X’s real estate director, Nicole Hollander, the company’s headquarters are now in Bastrop, a small town that is also home to SpaceX and The Boring Company. Last month, X updated a set of incorporation documents to show the Bastrop address, according to evidence filed by the company. Musk is requesting that the Lemon case be allowed to proceed in Texas.

“X has leased the property in Bastrop as its official corporate headquarters and will eventually relocate its employees from the Austin office to the new location in Bastrop.”

In July, Musk announced he would move the headquarters of X and SpaceX to Austin, Texas, apparently in response to a California law that prohibits public schools from informing parents of their children’s gender identity changes. X closed its San Francisco office on September 13. accordingly Assets and Hollander’s statement and is reportedly trying to sublet the 800,000 square meter space. Earlier this month Assets reported that Bay Area employees are currently being shuffled between offices in San Jose and Palo Alto. A new location has not yet been officially named.

In the statement, Hollander claims X has 188 full-time employees in Texas, but did not specify how many are in Bastrop. The new address is in Building 2 at Hyperloop Plaza, a Musk-owned shopping center that houses a “Boring Bodega” grocery store, hair salon and pub. According to court documents, X signed a three-year commercial lease on the property in April, making Musk his own landlord. Although the company also has an office in Austin, “X has leased the Bastrop property as its official headquarters and will ultimately relocate its employees from the Austin office to the new Bastrop location,” Hollander added.

In July, X announced that it would hire a small number of safety and security officers for a “Safety X Support Center” in Bastrop.

X has not yet responded to a request for comment.

In 2021, Musk began buying large tracts of land in Bastrop under an LLC called Gapped Bass. A cluster of buildings, living modules and construction sites owned by SpaceX and The Boring Company now sits along the Colorado River, and some of the city’s residents have protested the rapid development there. Earlier this year, The Boring Company was hit with two environmental fines for unapproved tunneling and improper wastewater disposal.

In July Forbes reported that Musk also opened a branch of his experimental Ad Astra school in Bastrop and is accepting preschool and elementary school students for the upcoming school year.
