Kathryn Hahn’s nude scene in “Agatha All Along” sparked quite a reaction from Marvel boss Kevin Feige
It was a cheeky choice by Disney.
The first episode of “Agatha All Along,” now streaming on Disney+, features one of the few nude scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In one scene, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) runs around without clothes while her bare butt is visible on the screen – shocking in the notoriously prudish, buttoned-up world of Marvel.
It’s the only butt shot in the 16 years since the MCU launched with 2008’s Iron Man, aside from a brief glimpse of Chris Hemsworth’s butt in the 2022 film Thor: Love and Thunder.
“Agatha All Along” creator Jac Schaeffer told TV Line on Thursday that Marvel boss Kevin Feige was initially unenthusiastic about the scene. His reaction to the idea: “Really?”
Schaeffer said the scene was originally written so that Agatha would wake up naked from a spell cast on her by Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and then put on a cloak.
“And Kathryn came to me and said, ‘Would Agatha stop to get a robe? I have a feeling she would walk out naked,'” she recalled, adding that the actress “was really up for it.”
Feige wasn’t there. However, the Marvel president ultimately approved it.
The scene “is so grounded in the characters. It’s not exploitative, it’s not sexual,” Schaeffer told the outlet.
She added: “It’s about this witch and her priorities. And in that moment, she needs answers and she doesn’t care if she’s naked or not. So yes, it’s a point of pride for us.”
“Agatha All Along” is a spin-off of the MCU series “WandaVision,” which aired in 2021 and starred Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. The series followed Wanda and Vision (Bettany) living in the suburbs after the events of the 2019 film “Avengers: Endgame.”
Agatha Harkness made her first screen appearance in this series, playing a witch who posed as Agnes, Wanda’s nosy neighbor.
“Agatha All Along” is the 11th show in the MCU, including “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” with Wyatt Russell and Anthony Mackie and “Loki” with Tom Hiddleston.
The series picks up where WandaVision left off, with Agatha escaping the suburbs and founding a new coven. Aubrey Plaza also plays a leading role.
“I really like to cackle,” Hahn told the Post.
“I was so glad they let me. I thought, ‘I need to giggle, guys, come on. I know this is exaggerated, but we need a witch who giggles.'”
