Storms and winds move to New Mexico on Saturday

A storm will bring rain and wind to New Mexico on Saturday. Temperatures will feel more like fall on Sunday.

Moisture moved into New Mexico on Friday before a storm moved in on Saturday. This brought scattered rain showers to parts of eastern and northern New Mexico today, as well as a few isolated showers to the Albuquerque metro. Temperatures were cooler in those areas today thanks to clouds. Scattered rain showers will continue in parts of New Mexico through the night.

An autumn-like storm system will move into New Mexico by Saturday afternoon. This will increase storm coverage in the eastern half of the state, where strong to severe storms are possible. Storms will also move back into northern New Mexico by the afternoon. A scattered morning shower cannot be ruled out in the Albuquerque metro, but drier and windier weather will move in by the afternoon. Areas from Albuquerque to southwestern New Mexico could see wind gusts of up to 45 mph Saturday afternoon. Rain and thunderstorms will move out of New Mexico late Saturday night into Sunday, while a cold front moves across the state, leaving cooler temperatures Sunday morning.

Fall officially begins at 6:43 a.m. Mountain Time on Sunday, and it will definitely feel more like fall. Highs on Sunday afternoon will be even cooler than normal for this time of year. The cooler conditions will continue through early next week. Forecast models are increasingly predicting that another storm system will hit New Mexico starting next Tuesday, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorm chances and even cooler temperatures through at least next Thursday.
