Vance Joy brought his signature blend of indie folk and heartfelt lyrics to Chicago’s Salt Shed last night for one of his “Dream your life away” anniversary shows. It’s been ten years since his acclaimed album left us all stranded on a riptide of emotions, and Tuesday night proved those waves of nostalgia are still going strong. With 18 songs on the setlist, a few surprising covers, and plenty of sonic magic, Vance Joy turned a casual night in Chicago into a memory for the ages.

The Salt Shed, once an industrial salt warehouse, now serves as a unique concert venue. Its rugged, exposed brick and steel beams provide a harsh but charming contrast to more traditional concert halls. Joy opened the show with acoustic versions of “From Afar” and “Winds of Change,” setting the tone for an intimate evening under the stars. His voice, as delicate as ever, made the evening feel like a personal serenade.

In an unexpected twist, Joy treated his fans to a cover of Noah Cyrus’ “Everybody Needs Someone” and a surprising rendition of KISS’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.” These moments kept the audience guessing and gave the set a fresh twist, making the performance feel both nostalgic and new. Of course, the crowd erupted in cheers when the unmistakable opening chords of “Riptide” rang out, and everyone sang along to his biggest hit.

For the encore, Vance returned with “I’m With You,” capping off an evening of acoustic gems and soulful performances. Joy’s appearance at the Salt Shed was the perfect tribute to an album that is just as touching today as it was ten years ago. Here’s to the next ten years of dreams with Vance Joy.
