Lions coach Dan Campbell sells his Detroit-area home for safety reasons

Lions coach Dan Campbell is selling his home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a suburb northwest of Detroit, for security reasons, he told Crain’s Detroit Business this week.

Campbell told Crain’s that he liked the neighborhood and called the house – a 7,500-square-foot mansion on a half-acre lot – “beautiful,” but added, “People just figured out where we live when we lost.”

According to Fox 2, the Campbell family filed a police report after being harassed and molested in their home following several losses last season, including a 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

The Bloomfield Township Police Department released a statement this week saying it is “concerned with the safety of all our residents” and “will not tolerate harassment of any kind.”

“We hope that everyone, including fans, will respect the privacy of individuals and their families,” the police report said.

When asked about his safety on Friday, Campbell said, “I don’t want to go there at all. … It’s all good.”

“My main job here is to train this team and prepare them every week. And I have to do my job. And that’s all I focus on,” he said.

Despite the reported harassment, Campbell’s message to fans was positive before the Lions’ game against the Cardinals on Sunday in Arizona, with both teams 1-1 to start the season.

“I love our fans,” he said. “Fans are amazing, man. This city, I mean, there’s no place I want to be and no other team I want to coach for.”

“I mean, it’s rare to have an environment like ours and be able to train and play here – and I tell our guys this all the time, man, this is such a rare place and you better enjoy it because not every place has it like we do.”

Campbell and his wife, Holly, purchased the home they are now selling in 2021 for $3.5 million, according to a Crain’s report. The home was marked “pending” within a day after the couple listed it for sale this week with an asking price of $4.5 million.

The prospective buyers are a large family who are also “big” Lions fans, Ashley Crain, the real estate agent representing the Campbells and the prospective buyers in the sale, told Crain’s.

Since the Lions hired Campbell in 2021, the team has a 25-27-1 record and reached the NFC Championship Game in January for the first time since 1991.
