Evergy selects OneLayer to manage and secure its private cellular OT resources

“With this large-scale rollout, we needed a way to manage the growing number of OT devices using our private cellular network,” said JJ Stutler, Manager of Wireless Engineering & Operations at Evergy. “We needed automation and delegation of various device rollout steps to different Evergy teams, as well as complete visibility into all devices at all times. OneLayer did all of that, plus provided operational and security frameworks for our private LTE networks and connected devices. With OneLayer, Evergy is now better equipped to reliably power customers and realize the potential of its strategic sustainability transformation plan for its customers and stakeholders.”

Implementing the OneLayer platform is expected to result in significant savings for Evergy in asset management, operations and network management.

OneLayer’s asset management capabilities increase Evergy’s operational efficiency by automating device integration, provisioning, profiling, classification, and activation. OneLayer enables delegation of onboarding steps to different teams, enabling Evergy to effectively scale its network by creating autonomy for different Evergy teams while maintaining visibility into which devices are being integrated. By gaining visibility and tracking of every single device connected to the network – even non-cellular devices connected via cellular routers – Evergy can evaluate device and router performance and uptime, perform vendor comparisons at scale, and dynamically adjust quality of service (QoS) for different device groups or situations.

As a player in critical national infrastructure, Evergy requires rigorous security measures. OneLayer provides Evergy with end-to-end zero-trust security that seamlessly extends Evergy’s existing security frameworks, established segmentation standards and regulatory requirements to the private LTE space. OneLayer Bridge’s OT/IoT asset discovery and tracking, geofencing, anomaly detection and mitigation capabilities significantly reduce Evergy’s attack surface and enable rapid remediation of potential issues.

“OneLayer sees the Evergy team as visionaries, professionals, mission-oriented and focused on the needs of the company,” explains Dave MorCEO of OneLayer. “OneLayer is here to support Evergy on its path to success. Our strong relationships with private LTE vendors such as Ericsson and CPE providers ensure continued support for improved products and enhanced features. With this approach, Evergy can not only capitalize on existing efficiencies but also be prepared for evolving challenges and opportunities in the private LTE landscape.”
