Aaron Rodgers: We have to start faster, let our defense play with a lead

The Jets offense finished strong against the Titans in week two, with Aaron Rodgers leading a 74-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter to break a 17-17 tie and give the Jets their first win of the season.

It was the third touchdown drive of the day for the Jets, making it two straight weeks with three offensive touchdowns for a team that scored 18 of them throughout the 2023 season. That seems to be a sign that the unit is coming together following Rodgers’ return from a torn Achilles, but Rodgers focused on the three punts that opened the Titans game when asked how close the offense is to hitting full speed.

“It doesn’t really matter how close we are,” Rodgers said, according to a team transcript. “What matters is what we did on the field. How close we are is great for the coaches because they can coach the whole thing, but it would be a waste of money to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So we’ve got to change some things, we’ve got to be a little sharper, we’ve got to start faster. We started really slow the first two weeks, so we’ve got to start faster, get something going in the first 15 (plays) and give our defense a chance to play with an edge.”

Catching up from behind is easier when the opposing offense stupid playsbut that’s not something the Jets can count on every week. So the logical next step for the offense is to find a way to hit the ground running. They’ll get that chance on Thursday night against the Patriots.
