Avatar: The Last Airbender Season two is officially in production. Netflix announced the news with a teaser video and revealed the actress who will play the highly anticipated role of earthbender Toph.
The live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s popular animated series, which was first released in February, was renewed for two more seasons in March.
The story, like the animated original, follows the young Avatar Aang (Gordon Cormier) as he learns to master the four elements (water, earth, fire, air) to restore balance to a world threatened by the Fire Nation. Kiawentiio plays his girlfriend Katara and Ian Ousley plays her brother Sokka.
For the second season, Netflix announced that Miya Cech will play the role of earthbender Toph, who joins the crew. The video released on Thursday does not show her face, but hints at her earthbending powers.
Cech’s previous engagements include an episode of the Emmy-winning beef and Adam Sandler’s You are definitely not invited to my Bat Mitzvah.
The Lord of the Elements Also starring: Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, Elizabeth Yu as Princess Azula and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko.
Before the show’s premiere, Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ousley and Liu The Hollywood Reporter They really wanted to find their Toph.
“With the animated series, it just gets better with each season,” said Kiawentiio. “I think it’s super exciting that we have a new member in our group and we get to see Toph.”
