Lions player Dan Campbell sells his $4.5 million home for security reasons: “People found out where we live”

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is selling his suburban Detroit home for more privacy.

Campbell and his wife Holly put the 7,800-square-foot Bloomfield home up for sale this week for $4.5 million.

“There’s plenty of space. It’s on a 2-acre lot. The house is beautiful,” Dan Campbell told Crain’s Detroit Business. “It’s just that when we lost, people found out where we lived.”

Crain’s reported that a deal for the house was completed within 24 hours.

The likely buyers are “big” Lions fans, said Ashley Crain, who is representing Campbell and the buyers in the sale.

Campbell did not elaborate on what happened when people found out where he lived, but Bloomfield Township police said, “Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.”

“We hope that everyone, including fans, will respect the privacy of individuals and their families,” police added.

The home was originally built in 2013 for Igor Larionov, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame who played for the Detroit Red Wings.

The Lions hired Campbell in 2021 to turn around a team that had a 5-11 record the previous season.

New general manager Brad Holmes traded franchise icon Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams and acquired quarterback Jared Goff as part of the deal.

Campbell’s first year in Detroit was rough. The team finished 3-12-1, but showed improvement later in the year.

In Campbell’s second season, the Lions finished 9-8, picked up momentum in the home stretch and narrowly missed the playoffs.

The Lions built on their late-season success in 2023, finishing 12-5 and missing the Super Bowl by one win when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

This season, the Lions are off to a 1-1 start. They beat the Rams at home to start the season, but lost 20-16 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, despite an impressive performance from defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who recorded five sacks in the loss.

The Lions travel west to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, hoping to improve their record to 2-1 as their head coach prepares to move to a new home.
